Time alone or time with family?
Do the dishes or run in the rain?
Dance and sing or finish homework?
Be joyful or be responsible?
Follow the rules or follow your heart?
Have people enter your house and notice how everything looks perfect, how kids act with the best manners, eat the most nutritious food...or break the perfection illusion and let them see real pain, real love, real human connection?
Show your kids how to do everything just right or be thankful when they make mistakes because those are the greatest lessons?
Do I want my kids to remember all the cleaning and organizing and checking off lists or do I want them to remember...laughter, joy, freedom and feeling "a shaft of light make its way across your face"?
Do I push them to excel in school and sports so they will “succeed” or do I want them to find their own way at their own pace...and teach them that helping others is just as important?
Should we be vigilant and avoid:
Allergens
Vaccines
Pesticides
Artificial colors and flavors
TV
Video Games
Grown-up topics
Too much sun?
Or drive ourselves crazy and let controlling, perfectionist behavior steal away WHAT MATTERS MOST?
Or teach our kids (and ourselves) more strength and compassion and less fear?
Say what’s “expected” or what is “real”?
Be who you are supposed to be or who you REALLY are?
Be normal or be wonderful?
Follow your heart – career heart or family heart? How do you do both well?
How do we give of ourselves without losing ourselves?
Someone please tell me what is right and what is wrong.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing
and rightdoing there is a field.
I'll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass
the world is too full to talk about. - Rumi
